Artist Statement
Because animals are beautiful (even the ugly ones), can be so easily personified, are silly at times, have curves, and come in such a variety of packages - I am constantly, and permanently inspired.
The creation of sculpture challenges my ability to capture an animal that is interesting from every viewpoint, to express its posture and spirit, and to give it "life".
The medium of my choice and experience, hybridized concrete, allows me to create hollow, lightweight pieces with endless color, finishing and texturing possibilities. As a bonus, the medium is hardy, and can live indoors, or out.
I thrive on puns, and often work word plays into the theme of a piece in order to provoke a thought, or to instill "fun" – a feeling of playful spirit - and if you smile, I feel I’ve done my job.
