Tacoma Tries Feng Shui

Call it trying to change the Aura of Tacoma.

Artists in a city beleaguered for years by the Aroma of Tacoma emanating from its industrial waterfront and a string of high-profile bad news will try to use feng shui this summer to bring the place a little luck.

Fifteen artists are designing red doors, which, according to the ancient Chinese practice for creating harmony in one's environment, are supposed to bring positive energy, financial gain and good feelings to places. The doors will be placed in parks and on sidewalks in the city from June through August.

Leading the effort is 59-year old Lynn Di Nino, a concrete sculptor who was lured by a dream house from Seattle's Capitol Hill to Tacoma's North End 2 1/2 years ago....
