NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED
May 14, 2008 thru Jun 17, 2008

Please join me at my opening at Mineral, May 15, 5-9 p.m. Show continues through June 17. Address: 301 Puyallup Ave., Ste. A., Tacoma 98421 (formerly the site of Icebox Contemporary). Hours: Tues., Wed., Thurs. & Sat. 12-5, and by appointment (please note: hours may vary; please call ahead at 253/250-7745).
Mineral is pleased to present new work by Tacoma artist and provocateur, Lynn Di Nino. "No Good Deed Goes Unpunished" marks a sly departure from the large-scale animal sculpture Di Nino is known for, to conceptual neckwear that explores a theme close to the artist's heart: Martyrdom.

"These cast concrete necklaces are intended for martyrs to wear," says Di Nino. "I've created them to be as heavy and cumbersome as possible, with a range to fit any self-punishing person's specialized needs." These works suggest that when life tosses one an albatross, one slam-dunk response is to wear it proudly. A piece called "The Buck Stops Here" features a monumental concrete nose - a visual reminder to the masochistically inclined to "Just say no" to the ceaseless demands inflicted by friends, coworkers and self-conscience. "Repeated pitfalls, the cycle of becoming engaged and then complaining, result in the mantra, No good deed goes unpunished...." explains Di Nino.

CHAOS INTO ORDER
Jul 8, 2007 thru Jul 8, 2007

This chaotic performance art piece involves ten artist/stitchers creating recycled paper streamers to be hung on near-by scaffolding, gradually creating an orderly huge sculpture. Orators will entertain the workers with talk of peace. The all-day outdoor event is presented by 'Art on the Ave', in its 9th year and will be on Sunday, July 8th from noon until 6 pm, on 6th Avenue at approximately Anderson Street. You don't want to miss this event involving about fifty local artists. . .

Mar 17, 2007 thru Mar 17, 2007

I led about 30 artists in the creation of a papier mache bull head, measuring 12' from horn to horn. We also created his body using a dyed parachute with struts. We paraded him in the peace march commemorating the 4th year in Iraq. Downtown, Tacoma WA

100th Monkey Party

The 100th Monkey parties continue after more than a year with Sue Pivetta as the new organizer. The 100th Monkey concept refers to a 'tipping point', or 'critical mass', ie, here in Tacoma when the 100th person contributes in some way to our collective arts-socializing, or generosity in some way, we will then experience our community as very tangible.
These party events are every other month, on the fourth Wednesday, are self-supporting thru tile purchases and are held in Tacoma, where ARTery volunteers and sponsors are working to create community. For more information or to get on the snail-mailing list, see 100thmonkeytacoma.com

Suitcase Sightings
Jun 1, 2005 thru Feb 7, 2006

Suitcase Sightings was a multi-artist, multi-business, all-over-Tacoma arts happening that I designed and organized. 125 artists created one-of-a-kind decorated suitcases and local businesses each sponsored one or some. We worked with the News Tribune, Pierce Transit, Tacoma Neighborhoods Together, the Tacoma Arts Commission, Sands Costner & Associates and the Marriott Hotel to create publicity. The Museum of Flight selected twenty for viewing during December and January of 2006. See suitcasesightings.org for participating artists and pictures of their suitcases.

Commissioned by FirstNight to create a performance art work presented on the main stage New Year's Eve. Three opera singers in Marie Antoinette and Queen of Hearts costumes sang "Brindisi" from "La Traviata", while 1001 white plastic vacuum formed heads replicated from the faces of forty local personalities were launched down a city block for an audience of 3000. A large bonfire, jesters, shredded government documents and monks prevailed. Tacoma WA
